Thomas' 15 minutes of fame.

"Get the ball to Thomas," was the instruction from Coach Phillips to Thomas and four of his teammates in the huddle last night as the scoreboard read 32-32 with 11 seconds remaining. We were matched against Hallsville, for the second time in 2 weeks, in another "nail-biter." Thomas made the in-bound pass, and, in what seemed like slow-motion....the longest, yet shortest 11 seconds of our lives...Thomas hit a 3 point shot at the buzzer to win 35-32 in our opening game of the So Bo Co 7th grade basketball tournament. Needless to say, the place went completely nuts, including his mother...who, luckily got the whole thing on tape. (Still trying to figure out how to get it on here so you guys can see!) I'm sure it added about 10 gray hairs to my head, but it was WORTH IT!! I think that may have been Thomas' 15 minutes of fame...he was nearly mobbed when he emerged from the locker room into the gym, and the high-fives and fist bumps were abundant. He says he felt like he was in a dream after the shot went in.

Now we are on to Thursday night to play California. Many more games like this and I don't know what I'll do....I may need to go on heart medication.
Luckily, our local newspaper editor, Bruce Wallace, captured this photo right after it happened. He was on his way out the door and whipped out his camera in time to capture this "shocked" expression. Priceless!!
