Today was a day to relax and recover. Last week I worked four 12 hour shifts in a row, Thursday being an "extra" shift. Friday, the last day of my "week" was the hardest...when I spent 6 hours in the operating room trying to get twins delivered. My feet never hurt so bad as they did when I came home Friday night. I was off the weekend. Saturday I scrap booked all day and then Sunday we had soccer games. Monday it was back to work for three 12's in a row. So basically I worked more hours in 7 days than "normal" people work in 10. I actually slept until 11 this morning, and would have slept longer if Mia hadn't come in and woken me up. It wasn't even a "look at the clock...it's 9:00...I'll just close my eyes for another few minutes" kind of thing. It was hard sleeping until 11:00. Guess I really needed it. Don't hate me, Michelle....I could NEVER survive on "Hodge Time. "
I have a new-found appreciation for the unit secretaries on labor and delivery. I arrived at work on Tuesday morning to find that I was assigned to be the secretary, as the one who was scheduled had called in...she got stranded in Kansas. I'm thinking, okay...this will be fine. I can do this...I've done it before...no problem. I borrowed computer passwords from the off-going night unit secretary and settled in for the day. All was well until...oh...I don't know....noon or so. Then it was baby, baby, baby, baby... and more babies. Lots of paperwork involved with each delivery....phone calls to make to notify pediatricians of baby's arrival, orders for lab to be put in the computer, charts to be organized.....all the while attending to the needs of the nurses..putting in orders....paging physicians, answering the PHONE!!!! We had 3 babies in less than 30 minutes, so that was 6 charts I had to deal with....3 moms and 3 babies. Things were really starting to pile up in front of me. To add insult to injury, we had JCACHO there doing our inspection...a HUGE deal. I know you're reading this TAMI....thanks for prank calling me from the triage room and making me stifle my laughter with the inspector sitting at the desk behind me, talking to a group of nurses. Veeeeery funny. What goes around, comes around sista. I'd watch my back if I were you....
So, my hat is off to the girls who run the desk in labor and delivery. Without an organized, hard working unit secretary, the unit can simply fall apart. I appreciate you ladies SO much.
The kids and I went to see "Up" today. What a nice family movie. I highly recommend it.

I definitely don't hate you for not doing "Hodge" time. I could never do HALF the stuff you do, professionally!!! I would faint or vomit. That wouldn't be good.
