Whose idea was this?

So Amy and I (Amy, mostly) have formed a book club. We are having our first book discussion on April 8th. Each member made suggestions back in January and we voted on what we would read first. Let it be known that I did NOT vote for this book.... Persuasion by Jane Austen. Now, anyone who knows me knows that I am a reading fiend. Just ask Amy, who ran into me at the library one day and asked for book suggestions. I pointed to several books on the library shelves..."This one's good....that one's good.....so is this one...." much to her amazement. I can't go to sleep at night unless I read first. I ALWAYS have a book going, and I usually will take it with me wherever I go if there is going to be any waiting involved. I think I get this from my mom. (Love you, Mom!) But, no matter how hard I tried, I could not finish Persuasion. I was sort of excited to read a classic....I made myself read Gone with the Wind last summer and LOVED it. I figure...I'm in my 40's, I should branch out and read things that I don't typically read. Well, I got about half way through this one and put it aside for a while and read something else. A few weeks later I picked it up again. After all, I don't want to go to the book discussion and have nothing to say, right?! After reading a chapter and discovering that I didn't really retain any of it, I decided to just stop. Amy says it was sllllooooooowwwww going for her (she FINISHED it!!) , like reading a foreign language and having to read sentences over and over again. A friend suggested I get the books on tape version...I just might do that. Amy rented the movie....but isn't that cheating??

Now if you'll excuse me...all this talk about reading...I'm going to go READ!!

I admire you... for reading a "classic"... I just finished the Jen Lancaster series. Nothing classic about it, but very entertaining... "Bitter is the New Black", "Bright Lights, Big Ass" (I warned you, no class), and "Such a Pretty Fat". Hilarious! I just started that Jodi Piccoult one "19 Minutes"... it's so sad and scary (so far)... I don't know what I'm going to do when I'm done nursing... that's when I read!!!
