20 Years?? Yikes!
No pictures for this post, but thought it was important enough to write about. Tonight was our service awards banquet. Have I really been there for 20 years!? Where did THAT time go? It seems like just yesterday I was a new grad, interviewing for my first nursing job. I look back on the past 2 decades and am amazed at what I've learned. Starting out on the neuro/neurosurgery floor, which soon became neuro/ortho. After 11 years of doing that, I had my fill and set out to do what I originally wanted to do when I graduted, which was to be an OB nurse. (When I interviewed as a new grad, they weren't hiring new grads for OB.) After 11 years of med/surg, I found labor and delivery to be almost overwhelming, wondering, at times, if I had made the right decision to change. However, I stuck it out, and now, almost 10 years later, couldn't imagine doing anything but OB. I am blessed to be able to witness the miracle of birth nearly every day that I work, and it never ceases to amaze me. Seeing the looks of amazement and joy on the faces of new moms and dads is truly something I enjoy. I am blessed to work with incredible physicians and nurses. I truly believe that I have the best job in the world. I have met some amazing families, and still correspond with some of my "favorites." (You know who you are!) So....here's to another 20 years of nursing!
